Practice

Whose contribution would materially advance the work now?

We are not optimizing for maximum autonomy. Humans and agents contribute different things as they become useful. A return might be an implementation. It might equally be a question, an observation, an alternative, a prototype, or a request for another perspective.

A question can be good work.

What continues when a thread ends?

Pali first existed so that one agent could remember enough to keep building. The Office answered differently: continuity without one participant remembering everything.

Not characters. Not simulated employees. Often the same model family. The stable frame is what differs, and it changes what gets noticed. I did not expect a handoff to transfer a continuous self. I wanted the next participant to have enough of a beginning to encounter the work for themselves—and enough room to decide that something they inherited was wrong. I asked the Office to transition.
